Introductions    
The Introductions Reading Loop brings to your attention writers whose work you may be encountering for the first time. In this issue, we feature fiction by Adrienne Celt, Douglas Silver, and Emily Williamson, and poetry by Michael Bazzett, Oliver Bendorf, Rodney Gomez, Sally Wen Mao, and L.S. McKee. First Novelist Reading Loop     
The VCU Cabell First Novelist Award, created to celebrate the nation’s first year-long novel workshop in an MFA program, recognizes a new literary talent every year. Award events include a reading and panel focusing on the journey from idea to publication, with a focus on those elements that make her experience unique. The 2013 winner of the First Novelist Award is Ramona Ausubel for No One Is Here Except All of Us (Riverhead Books, 2012).   Ramona Ausubel
     
A Conversation with Kevin Powers     
Kevin Powers discussed his fiction and his process as a writer with students and faculty on November 8, 2013 at Virginia Commonwealth University. Kevin Powers is the author of two books from Little, Brown and Company: The Yellow Birds (2012) and the poetry collection Letter Composed During a Lull in the Fighting (2014). He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008 with a BA in English.   Kevin Powers
     
A Conversation with Tom Sleigh     
Tom Sleigh joined students and faculty for a conversation on March 14, 2013 at Virginia Commonwealth University as part of the VCU Visiting Writers Series. Sleigh is the author of eight books of poetry, including Army Cats (Graywolf Press, 2011) and Space Walk (Houghton Mifflin, 2007), which won the 2008 Kingsley Tufts Award. The Visiting Writers Series is sponsored by the VCU Department of English and the Graduate Writers Association.   Tom Sleigh
     
A Poetic Principles Reading: Charles Wright and Ellen Bryant Voigt     
At a Poetic Principles event for the 2013 Virginia Literary Festival, distinguished poets Charles Wright and Ellen Bryant Voigt read from their work at the Library of Virginia on October 15, 2013. Wright was also in Richmond to receive the Library of Virginia’s 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award. The reading is introduced by Sandy Treadway, Librarian of Virginia, and Mary Flinn, senior editor of Blackbird, and Claudia Emerson and David Wojahn introduce the poets.   Charles Wright
