Recent Awards for Current and Previous Blackbird Contributors

Chris Abani was the recipient of a 2014 United States Artists Ford Fellowship in Literature.

Linda Bierds was longlisted for the 2014 National Book Award in Poetry for Roget’s Illusion (G. P. Putnam’s Sons/Penguin Group, 2014).

Bryn Chancellor won the 2014 Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Fiction for her story collection, When Are You Coming Home?, which will be published by the University of Nebraska Press.

Victoria Chang was named the winner of the 2014 PEN Center USA Literary Award for Poetry for The Boss (McSweeney’s, 2013).

Terrance Hayes received a 2014 MacArthur Fellowship for poetry.

Khaled Mattawa received a 2014 MacArthur Fellowship for poetry.

Jamaal May received a 2014 Lannan Literary Fellowship for Poetry.

Matthew Minicucci received the 2014 Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize, chosen by Jane Hirshfield, for his collection, No Epithets, which will be published by Kent State University Press.

Allan Peterson was named the winner of the 2014 Snowbound Chapbook Poetry Award. His chapbook, Other Than They Seem, will be published by Tupelo Press.

Yasmine Rana received a 2014 Life Achievement Award from the Paramus Education Foundation.

Claudia Rankine was named a finalist for the 2014 National Book Award in Poetry for Citizen: An American Lyric (Graywolf Press, 2014). She also received a 2014 Lannan Literary Fellowship for Poetry.

Spencer Reece was longlisted for the 2014 National Book Award in Poetry for The Road to Emmaus (Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, 2014).

Sara Quinn Rivara won the 2014 Lake Prize from Midwestern Gothic for her poem, “Animal Bride.”

Lee Smith was named a winner of the 2014 Library of Virginia Literary Awards for his novel, Guests on Earth (Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, 2013).

Mark Strand was longlisted for the 2014 National Book Award in Poetry for Collected Poems (Alfred A. Knopf/Random House, 2014).

Charles Wright was named the Poet Laureate of the United States.
