Margaret Gibson is the author of eleven books of poetry, all from Louisiana State University Press, most recently Broken Cup (2014), Second Nature (2010), One Body (2007), Autumn Grasses (2003), and Icon and Evidence (2001). Her awards include the 2008 Connecticut Center for the Book Award in Poetry for One Body, the 1986 Melville Cane Award of the Poetry Society of America for Memories of the Future, and the 1982 Lamont Selection of the Academy of American Poets for Long Walks in the Afternoon. Her poem “Earth Elegy” won the 1996 James Boatwright III Prize for Poetry, and she received a 2001 Pushcart Prize for “Archaeology.” Gibson has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant (1985), a Lila Wallace/Reader’s Digest Teaching Fellowship (1994), and grants from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.
