Recent Awards for Current and Previous Blackbird Contributors

Anders Carlson-Wee’s chapbook, Dynamite, (Bull City Press, 2015) won the 2015 Frost Place Chapbook Competition.

Jennifer Grotz received a 2016 National Endowment for the Arts Literature Translation Fellowship.

Tarfia Faizullah won the 2015 Binghamton University Milt Kessler Poetry Book Award for Seam (Southern Illinois University Press, 2014).

Beth Ann Fennelly was awarded the Fall 2015 Orlando Creative Nonfiction Prize.

Kathy Flann’s collection of stories, Get a Grip (Texas Review Press, 2015), won the 2014 George Garrett Award.

Saeed Jones won the 2015 PEN/Joyce Osterweil Award for Poetry for his collection, Prelude to Bruise (Coffee House Press, 2014).

Circe Maia won the 2015 Grand National Prize for Intellectual Work for her poetry.

Lena Moses-Schmitt’s poem, “The Gate,” will be included in Best New Poets 2015.

Dan O’Brien received a 2015 Guggenheim Fellowship for Drama & Performance Art. His play, The Body of an American, will be presented by Hartford Stage, January 7–January 31, 2016.

Joanna Pearson’s story, “Changeling,” which appeared in Blackbird v13n2, was listed as a Distinguished Story in The Best American Short Stories 2015.

Kevin Powers received a 2015 Guggenheim Fellowship for Fiction.

Claudia Rankine’s collection, Citizen: An American Lyric (Graywolf Press, 2014) has won the 2015 Forward Prize for Best Collection. She was also shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry.

Ellen Bryant Voigt received a 2015 grant from the MacArthur Foundation.

Mark Wagenaar won the 2015 Auburn Witness Poetry Prize.
