Levis Remembered     
Welcome to Blackbird’s annual Levis Remembered reading loop, which features poetry by and commentary on the work of Larry Levis and introduces the nineteenth winner of the Levis Reading Prize, Rickey Laurentiis. The annual prize is given by Levis’s family and VCU’s Department of English to a poet for their first or second published book. Poems from Laurentiis’s collection, Boy with Thorn (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2015), appear, along with a reading and a review of his book.   Larry Levis
     
A Reading by Dinty W. Moore     
On April 13, 2016, VCU’s Visiting Writers Series hosted a nonfiction reading by Dinty W. Moore at the Scott House. Moore read from his latest collection of essays, Dear Mister Essay Writer Guy: Advice and Confessions on Writing, Love, and Cannibals (Ten Speed Press, 2015). Moore has published several books of nonfiction, and his memoir Between Panic & Desire (Bison Books, 2010) won the National Book Prize for Nonfiction.   Dinty W. Moore
     
A Reading by David St. John & Anna Journey   
On March 2, 2016, Anna Journey and David St. John read as a part of VCU’s Visiting Writers Series: Journey from various collections of poetry, including The Atheist Wore Goat Silk (forthcoming from LSU Press, 2017) and If Birds Gather Your Hair for Nesting (University of Georgia Press, 2009); St. John from his newest collection, The Auroras (HarperCollins, 2012), and from Larry Levis’s The Darkening Trapeze: Last Poems (Graywolf Press, 2016), which he edited.   Anna Journey
