Recent Awards for Current and Previous Blackbird Contributors

Subcortical by Blackbird contributor Lee Conell received the Story Prize Spotlight Award for short story collections published in 2017.

You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me, written and narrated by Blackbird contributor Sherman Alexie, is a finalist for the Audio Publishers Association 2018 Audie Award for short story collections.

Blackbird contributors Paisley Rekdal and Kathy Fagan are finalists for the 2018 Kingsley & Kate Tufts Poetry Award. Rekdal also received the 2016 AWP Award for Creative Nonfiction for The Broken Country: On Trauma, a Crime, and the Continuing Legacy of Vietnam.

The Theatre at Boston Court’s production of The House in Scarsdale: A Memoir for the Stage, written by Blackbird contributor Dan O’Brien, received five nominations for Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards.

Blackbird contributors Camille Dungy and Jesmyn Ward are finalists for the 2017 National Book Critics Circle Awards. Ward's Sing, Unburied, Sing is also on the longlist for the Women's Prize in Fiction and the shortlist for the Aspen Words Literary Prize.

Blackbird contributor Jesmyn Ward’s Sing, Unburied, Sing won the 2017 National Book Award and was named by the New York Times as one of the ten best books of 2017.

The National Book Critics Circle elected Blackbird contributor Victoria Chang to its board.

Blackbird contributor Jamie Quatro’s debut novel Fire Sermon was a January 2018 Indie Next selection.

Jump!Star, a community cultural enrichment project by Blackbird contributor George Ferrandi, was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant.

Blackbird contributor Terri Witek won the Slope Editions’ 16th Annual Book Contest. Her winning poetry collection, The Rape Kit, will be published later this year.

SpectreVision purchased the film rights to The House in Hydesville by Blackbird contributor Dan O’Brien. An excerpt of the play appeared in Blackbird v12n2.

Blackbird contributor Anders Carlson-Wee won the 2017 Poetry International Prize for his poem “Cutting for Sign.”

The Library of Virginia awarded Blackbird contributor Carrie Brown the People’s Choice Award for Fiction.

Blackbird contributor T.R. Hummer won the 2017 Donald Justice Award for Poetry presented by the Fellowship of Southern Writers.
