Recent Awards for Current and Previous Blackbird Contributors

Blackbird contributor Marilyn Nelson has received the Poetry Foundation’s 2019 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize.

Maggie Brown & Others, a story collection by Blackbird contributor Peter Orner, was reviewed in The New York Times, which called it one of the summer’s most anticipated titles.

Oprah magazine named The Vexations, Blackbird contributor Caitlin Horrocks’s debut novel, a must-read book in July.

Blackbird contributor Saeed Jones’s book, How We Fight for Our Lives, was listed in Barnes and Noble’s Discover Great New Writers Program. The book was also a Fall 2019 Okra Pick by the Southern Independent Booksellers.

Instruments of the True Measure, a book of poems by Blackbird contributor Laura Da, was a finalist for the Washington State Book Award.

The Unmade World, a 2018 novel by Blackbird contributor Steve Yarborough, won the 2019 Massachusetts Book Award for Fiction.

Michael Chitwood’s new book of poems, Search & Rescue, and Claudia Emerson’s posthumous release, Claude Before Time and Space, tied to win the Library of Virginia Poetry Award.

Jon Pineda, a Blackbird contributor, won the Emyl Jenkins Sexton Literary Award for Fiction for his book, Let’s No One Get Hurt, at the Library of Virginia Literary Awards.

Blackbird contributor Katie Solie has been shortlisted for the 2019 T.S. Eliot Prize for her book of poems The Caiplie Caves.

Blackbird contributor Brynne Rebele-Henry’s Orpheus Girl was named a 2019 Fall Okra Pick by the Southern Independent Booksellers.

Blackbird contributor Will Schutt’s translation of the work of Italian poet Fabio Pusterla has won the Raiziss/De Palchi Fellowship from the Academy of American Poets.
