Fred Wilson exposes the ideological agenda and exclusionary practices of cultural institutions in Mining the Museum, his rearrangement of artifacts in the Maryland Historical Society. Juxtaposing iron "Slave Shackles" found in the archives of the Historical Society with "Silver Vessels in Baltimore Repousse Style," he reinvigorates both the role of the museum and the discourse of history.
