Shirley Kaneda aligns the painter’s practice with technological innovation—in her case, the computer. Her vocabulary fuses digital imaging with a reverence for the aesthetic integrity of formalist abstraction. The surfaces of her paintings reflect the distinct insight and skill of a painter’s eye and sensibility, as well as a variety of digital calisthenics that are employed in the initial stages of composing each piece.
