GERALD STERN

A Reading by Gerald Stern

On April 26, 2007, the Department of English hosted award-winning author Gerald Stern at The 1708 Gallery. Stern discusses his writing process and reads poems that were written throughout his career including some from his newest book, Save the Last Dance (W.W. Norton, 2008). Our recording equipment failed near the end of the reading, so we bring you this particular reading in part. Lost are several of the closing poems from the then forthcoming manuscript; nevertheless, there is plenty here to hear in the way of poetry and anecdote from the funny—and moving—Gerald Stern, including a rememberance of the late Larry Levis and a poem dedicated to his memory.
