CLAUDIA EMERSON

Poetic Principles: A Reading by Claudia Emerson

Claudia Emerson read from her work on November 5, 2008, to open the annual Poetic Principles reading series at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. This event honored Emerson as the 2007 recipient of the Carole Weinstein Prize in Poetry. Opening with some thoughts on how her book Figure Studies differs from Late Wife, she presented work from Figure Studies, as well as unpublished poems.

Poetic Principles is sponsored jointly by the VMFA and New Virginia Review, Inc., and annually presents four readings of fiction and poetry. Introductory essays about the writers’ work accompany each reading in the form of a pamphlet, Platform, published by New Virginia Review, Inc. Platform essays, as well as recordings and transcripts of Poetic Principles events, will appear as future Blackbird Features. end
