The Common Swallow

David Caudle’s play The Common Swallow comes to us with documentation of its September performance at the 45 Bleeker Street Theatre in New York. Therefore, in addition to the play and an introduction by the author, we have a director’s statement, photographs, and other material pertaining to that production. We are grateful to David and the cast and crew for this opportunity to represent their work.

The Common Swallow was developed in the Dorothy Strelsin New American Writers Group at Primary Stages, and David has been a member of that group for three years.

Michelle Bossy, the Associate Artistic Director of Primary Stages notes that “The Common Swallow was written in the Writers Group in David’s first year, and I am excited that the play is getting the recognition it deserves. David’s work is provocative and stimulating, and his integrity on the page is matched by who he is as a person. He is a fresh and vital new voice in American theatre.”

The September production was a benefit for HOWL! HELP, a program administered by Actor’s Fund to provide emergency assistance to qualified performing artists in crisis and to offer other Actor’s Fund support services.
