LALLA ESSAYDI

Lalla Essaydi is an internationally-recognized photographer known for her large-scale photographs of Moroccan women. She has mounted solo exhibitions at VCU’s Anderson Gallery, the Longyear Museum of Anthropology, the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum, the Howard Yezerski Gallery, the Sultan Gallery in Kuwait, the Williams College Museum of Art, and the Edwynn Houk Gallery, among others. In addition, her photographs have appeared as part of collections in the Art Institute of Chicago, the Harvard Art Museum, the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, the North Carolina Museum of Art, and the British National Museum. Essaydi holds a BFA from Tufts University and an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She was born in Morocco and currently lives in New York.  end
